mr. Hill Related that It was soe very deep neer messina that the
Admirall /of Spaine/ could Ride close to the Key and noe bottom could be found by
/sound lines/ mr. Smith Related that mr.      Experiment noe bottomcould be found at the straights at 1000 fathom Deep.

mr. wheeler affirmed that there was a Pool or lake in wales of wch
noe bottom could be found.

mr. Hill supposed wth. good Reason that in weight tryalls of this
kind the lightnesse of . . . & buoyantnesse of the Rope
might at Length keep the weight from sinking any further
and soe much more line might be taken into the sea then
was nesse necessary to measure the Depth. the former pipe of
glasse would examine this. It was thought also that the
motion of the vnder parts of the water might bend the line
very much.-

vpon this mention was made of the bending of the Line of a
pendulum hung from the top of St. Paules before the fire.

Grauitation of Bodys neer to & at a distance from the surface
