Sr. Ioseph Williamson the President tooke the chair

The minutes of the 22th. of nouember hauing been read and some parte
gaue occasion of much Discourse concerning the Hydrostaticall Experiment
which had been shewd that Day and also to witt in order to the clearing of some
Doubts and answering objections, and further Expt. After an other method
had this Day been made had not the preparation wch. was ready vnhappily.. . .
been accidentally broken at their sitting down: which was therefore orderd to be
made anew prepared against the next Day. -
Then mr. hooke shewd two microscopicall Experiments wch. he had promised the
Day before.

The first was a further improuement of the compound microscope whereby
he shewd those small insects in Pepper water very much more magnifyd
and more cleer than they appeard the Day before, wch was Done by Making
the object glasse of a much smaller sphere than the last. which was viewd
by seuerall of the persons Present
The second was a new sort of a single microscope where.. . .wth. he
exhibited to the President himself and afterwards to most of the mem
bers present the same Little creatures swimming to & fro in the
small cones pepper water conteind in the small cone, and made them
soe visible that all that Lookd through the said microscopes though
they had not been accustom'd to the vse of glasses yet Discouerd
them soe plainely as to be able to Discerne their figures magni
tudes & motions. And all concluded the appearance this way to be much
more cleer then and Distinct then it was the other way by the Double
microscope; though that was one of the best of that kind. _ _
mr. Hooke did not now giue a Description of his single microscope as hauing
some further improuements thereof to Exhibit in some of the following
meetings, vndertaking to make the same to magnifye objects 1000
more than this though this considering the cleernesse did magnify about
1000 times more then the common microscopes. he was Desired to
prosecute these improuements wth. wt expedition he could.
and to prepare a letter for mr Lewenhook against the next Day
whilst this was Doing mr. Windham formerly proposed by Sr. I: Hoskins
was putt to the Ballot and was chosen wthout one negatiue-
there being ........ 24 fellows present.
Sr. Peter Wych propounded Sr.. Peter Colleton a candidate
& mr. Charles Howard Propounded Mr. Wheeler for candidates
Dr. Thomas Gale. Dr. Robert Plot and Mr. Thomas Smith being
wthout were called in and hauing seuerally read & subscribed the Ingage
ment in the charterbook they were by the President Admitted fellows.
