lettertext

fol.251r

Later Addition: 1592 16 July To my L. Treasurer

May it please your good L. To prevent the miscarieng, or the slowe deliverie of my last, I have sent the transcript of it heere: and an other of that lettre, which I writte unto your L. the 21 of April wherein you were advertised what was offered by the states, to the aide of the Kinge in Britaine. I have nowe proposed it a freshe, and am promised an answeare. But for ought I can parceave, their answear will be made but in generall termes (for so I am informed in secret conference with my frindes) and without any mention of any of those pointes, that were contened in their offer, and my in forsaid lettre. For it was no parfitte resolution which they tooke at that time, but a certaine project of their owne, which they were purposed then to propose unto the Provinces, if her Majestie would be willing to make an offer of her assistance in that kinde of proportion, as they had made the motion. But yet to signify so muche by their publicke lettres to her Majestie they said at that time, that they might not, nor will not nowe undoubtedly, lest the Provinces should impute it for presumption unto them, to prejudice their consentes by making former promise[[s]] Nevertheles I am privatly assured, by some of their assembly, that if her Highnes will be pleased, to signify to m[[e]] howe farre she will assent to their forsaid offer, to [[the]] ende they may be sure wherupon they may grownde [[.]] will presently proceede to parsuading of the Provinces. [[.]] thus attending every howre the answear of the State[[s]] I will presently send unto yow, I take my humble lea[ve] From the Hage./ July 16 1592
