Addressed: To the right honorable my very singular good Lord, the L. Burghley, Lord highe Treasurer of England.

Endorsed: 31 August 1591 Master Bodley from Haghe. The returne of the states Captains from viewing Hulst in Zeland

Later Addition: 31 August 91

It may please your good L. to be adver- tised, that assoone as I had sealed my other letters right nowe, those Captaines returned whome Count Maurice had imploied to en- quire about Hulst. By that which they report, the Enterprise, we hope, wilbe happely atchieved. For they doe seeme to assure us that there is in the towne but one Enseigne of men, and only two Advenues for the Enemie to succor it: which withall they affirme may be easely possessed and defended by us. It is thought the exploit may be perfourmed with 4000 men, which are sent for already from the neerest garrisons. And this I thought to signifie, the opportunitie being offered, with my former to your L. and so I take my humble leave. At the Hage August 31 1591. Your L. most humbly bounden Tho. Bodley
