Maye it please your good L: I reported in my last the 21 of this monneth the aunswear of the States to her Majesties demaunde for their assistance by Sea: wherto I finde them by their speeches very throughly disposed, and I doubt not at all of their speedy perfourmance. They doe attend altogether upon her Highnes precyse and finall resolution, without the which they will not make any present preparation, for the reasons alleadged in my former to your L: and because they sawe that those demaunds which were delivered Master Caron, the 15 of this monneth were then the same daye countermaunded againe: wherby remayning uncertaine of her Majesties intention, they know not how to frame the course of their provision. Nevertheles I doe alwayes assure them, that they shall have notice of it assoone as is needfull. I am alsoe earnest with them not onely to doe that which was requyred of Master Caron, by those foresayd demaundes but to extend the particulars to some greater proportion, which I am certainely persuaded, they will accomplishe in good sorte to her Highnes contentation. Moreover I suppose, that sith they have determined as I am informed to reduce the newe Englishe companies, that serve in their paye, to the number of 8 ensignes, which were 13 at the first, they maye be lykewise induced by her Majesties intreatie, to send them all towardes Brest, and to continue them there in the paye of these Contries, for the tyme of the enterprise. Which I signi- fie to your L: as my privat persuasion, not omitting anie meanes that I can use in that regarde, or in any other that I can learne, for the advauncement of the service.
