May it please your good L. to be advertised that there is freshe intelli- gence come hither to the Count of Hohenlo, that the K. of Spaine doth make newe levies in Germany both of horse and foote: of which there are 16 companies of horse, every company containinge 300 under the conduct of Coronel Slegel, Schoonenberch, Echenberch, and Simblemont, who have eche the commaundinge of 4 companies. There are likewise two regimentes of footemen: that make 30 Ensignes of which the charge is equallye devided between Duke Maurice and Coronel Bremen. There are certaine Ambas- sadors sent hither from the bishop of Liege, to negotiat a better agreement between the bishop and their Contreis. For the Lande of Liege, Collen, Munster and Westphalia, which are held for neutrall places, are greatly dammified by the frebutinge souldiers of the states, without any benefit to the General cause. These Ambassadors make report, that for certaine the Emperor is resol- ved to send unto her Majestie to the self same end, as to the states, to persuade her to a treatye. Howbeit there is annother come lately to the Hage from Cassimire, but wether it be for the Dukes affaires, or for his privat occasions, I cannot yet lerne. His name is Bassen, who hath bin emploied by the Duke heere- tofore in some buisines to her Majestie. This party declareth that the Princes of Germany that are Spanishe, give it out, that her Majestie hath sent of purpose to the Emperor to induce him to this Action of Intercession, between the Spaniard and [the] states. Albeit I knowe not further of it, then I signified [unto] you, yet I thought it not unmeete, to certifie what is bruited.
