Later Addition: Sir Tho Bodley to Sir Robert Sydney
Your L/ordships/ of the 10/th/ came two daies past unto my handes, with /with/ the inclosed from my Lorde. I attended no commission to perfourme the contents: but yet the negligence was great, of those that kept it so long, before they sent it unto yow. I have caused his Excellencie to deale with this Counsell, for the removing of your cornet: which they have resolved to send to waggening, and to that effort they have written to Monsieur de Locres the Governor to signifie their intention. Within these 3 daies we expect his answear, whereof yow shall have knowledge, and a patent sent unto yow. I am sorie Captain Littleton hath failed of his purpose, which is knowen all abroade. The occurrences heere and howe Sir John Norreis hath spedde with /with/ the states, he himself will signifie, being almost ready to depart assoone as this messenger. And so for this present I bidde your L/ordship/ farewell. From the Hage Marche 16 1590. Your L/dships/ at commaundement Tho. Later Addition: This was the famous Sir Thomas Bodley, who left to the University of Oxford, the Public Library, which bears his name, He servd his Country in several Ambassies, with great applause; as may be seen in his Life, printed at Oxon 1647 quart.; and in Woods Athenae Oxonienses Vol.1.
